This study analyzes the 2024 impeachment cheer stick protests from the perspective of musical performance. The key questions are how the symbol of popular music called K-pop was converted into the language of political resistance and how the transition organized collective political action across the square and digital. To this end, this study takes Jeffrey Alexander's theory of social performance and Henry Jenkins' theory of participatory culture as the main framework for analysis. First, through Alexander's theory, we analyze the process in which the material signs of the K-pop fandom, such as light sticks, flags, and music, are composed of a political performance in the square through background representations, screenplays, and mise-en-scène recombination. Next, through Jenkins' theory of participatory culture, we examine how the horizontal spread of X (formerly Twitter), TikTok's music-based reproduction, and YouTube's archive extend the square's performance beyond the boundaries of time and space. Furthermore, it explains the structure of loose solidarity in which heterogeneous subjects temporarily unite through a common signifier without a single ideology or organizational affiliation. As a result of the analysis, the 2024 light stick protest showed a new style of performance resistance in three dimensions. First, K-pop music served as a screenplay for the performance as a background representation already imprinted on the participants' bodies, and through this, tens of thousands of individuals were composed of synchronized collective actors. Second, the square became a venue for cultural translation and mutual learning across generations, functioning as a medium space where the musical languages of heterogeneous generations of K-pop and folk songs are tense and bonded. Third, the performance of the square expanded beyond the physical field through the cycle of digital memes, and in the process, a structure of post-digital resistance was formed in which online and offline penetrated each other. By demonstrating the process of re-transmitting the post-political pop culture symbol of K-pop into the language of political resistance in the context of the practice of the square, this study reveals that the politics of music is not fixed in the text, but is newly constructed every time in the context of the practice. Furthermore, it is established that the 2024 cheering stick protest is not a break in the Korean protest music culture, but a junction and transformation made on the historical accumulation.
