가야금산조 악조론 검토: 최옥삼류 가야금산조 분석에 더하여
가야금산조는 뛰어난 예술성을 가진 독주곡 장르로 다양한 악조로 구성되어 있으나, 악조에 관한 학계의 합의는 아직 이루어지지 않았다. 예를 들어 구전조명 상 동일한 ‘진우조’ 부분을 분석하더라도 백대웅, 이보형, 황준연 등 서로 다른 악조 이론을 적용할 경우 해석 결과에 차이가 발생한다. 이에 본 연구는 세 학자의 이론을 최옥삼류 가야금산조 분석에 적용하고, 그 결과를 비교함으로써 구전조명 및 실제 음악 양상과 가장 밀접하게 부합하는 악조론을 검토하고자 하였다. 분석 대상은 진우조, 변우조, 돌장 구간이며 해석이 대체로 일치하는 계면조 구간은 제외하였다. 특히 구전조명은 전승자들이 음악적 성격과 악조적 특성을 인식하고 명명한 결과로, 실제 연주의 해석을 반영하는 전통적 기준이다. 각 학자의 이론을 토대로 최옥삼류 가야금산조 진양을 분석한 결과, 이보형의 악조론이 구전조명과 가장 높은 일치도 및 구조적 타당성을 보였다. 본 연구는 서로 다른 악조 이론을 실제 음악에 적용하고 비교함으로써 향후 악조 분석의 기준 마련에 기여하고자 한다.

Gayageumsanjo is a solo instrumental genre known for its outstanding artistry, and although it consists of various modes(akjo), a consensus on their classification has yet to be established in academic circles. For instance, even the same section named "Jin-ujo" in oral transmission can be interpreted differently depending on which akjo theory is applied—those of Baek Dae-woong, Lee Bo-hyung, or Hwang Jun-yeon. This study applies and compares these three theorists’ modal frameworks to the Jinyang movement of the Choi Ok-sam style gayageumsanjo, aiming to identify which theory aligns most closely with both the orally transmitted terminology and actual musical characteristics. The analysis focuses on the sections labeled "Jin-ujo," "Byeon-ujo," and "Dol-jang," while omitting the Gyemyeonjo sections, as their interpretation is relatively consistent across theories. Particularly, oral modal names(gujeon jomyeong) are not arbitrary labels, but rather reflect the musical perception and interpretive insights of traditional performers. As such, they serve as a critical standard for validating theoretical approaches. The findings indicate that Lee Bo-hyung’s modal theory shows the highest level of structural validity and consistency with orally transmitted names. This study contributes to the refinement of akjo classification methods by evaluating different theories through direct musical analysis.
